The Japanese Spaniel Club of Canada (JSCC) was recognized by the Canadian Kennel Club in 2003.
The JSCC held its first National Specialty show in Ontario, during 2007. Since 2007, annual JSCC National specialties have been held in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Ontario.
Founding members included the Late Mrs. Joan Brazier, a dedicated Chin fancier and CKC judge; and Ms. Beverly Rogers (Nipponsan). Ms. Rogers was one of the first Canadians to import this charming breed from Japan into Canada, and win Best of Breed at Westminster Kennel Club. The Club’s Honorary Member, Ms. Jean Whitford (Valleja) of Quebec, remained an active Chin breeder into her 90s.
The Club has a small and enthusiastic membership. One of the most recent member accomplishments was to change the breed name to “Japanese Chin”, so that Canadians can discard the incorrect name “Japanese Spaniel”.
